In 1998, we received a customer request to develop a tombstone that is both lightweight and stable but not made out of aluminium. This led to the idea of producing a tombstone made of mineral cast.
Mineral cast (also known as polymer concrete) is an artificial stone consisting of quartz gravel, quartz sand, and rock flour, with high-quality epoxy resin as a binder.
Density: approx. 2.4 kg/dm³
Logarithmic decrement (vibration damping): > 0.035
Coefficient of linear expansion: approx. 12x10^-6 (1/K)
Tensile strength: 15 – 20 N/mm²
Thermal conductivity: approx. 2 W/mK
In certain cases, such as workpiece clamping directly on the tombstone (without base rails), a steel-coated mineral cast tombstone can also be a suitable alternative.
